Just listen in class.
Notes land on your slides

Gloss records your lecture and puts what the professor only said out loud (the explanations, the examples, the “this will be on the exam”) right on the slide it belongs to. Tap a note to hear that exact moment.

gloss: a note written in the margin of an old book. Gloss writes the professor’s words into the margins of your slides.

Slides have the keywords.
The explanation was spoken.

Write it down and you miss what comes next. Re-listen to the recording and it takes as long as the class. Recording apps give you the transcript and summary as a separate document, so you still have to work out which line went with which slide.

Gloss matches the transcript to the pages you turned while recording, and pins each explanation to its slide.

A typical recording app

Slides in one place, transcript in another. You go hunting.

Gloss

The words on the slide they belong to. Tap to hear that moment.

How it works

One record button.

  1. 1

Open the lecture PDF and record

Open your class slides and press Record. On Mac, record the microphone, the computer’s sound (for online classes), or both. Every page turn is time-stamped.

  2. 2

    Transcribed on your device

Speech turns into text about every 30 seconds, right on your Mac or iPhone with no internet needed. The recording never leaves it, and it keeps going with the screen off.

  3. 3

Notes on your slides after class

AI picks out the explanations, examples and emphasis for each page, marks them on the slide and lists them beside it. It works from the transcript even if you never turned a page.

Features

Only what you need to review.

Tap a note, hear the moment

Every note is tied to its moment in the recording. Replay only the parts you didn’t get.

Gathered from later pages

When the professor comes back to an earlier point, Gloss adds it to the original slide, marked “Added on p.15”.

Ask about the lecture

In the Ask tab, try “why does this proof work?” and get an answer drawn from that lecture’s slides and transcript.

Your own handwriting, too

Write over the AI notes with a pen or your finger. Your writing lives on its own layer, so remaking the AI notes never erases it.

Record on Mac, review on iPhone

Your notes follow you through your own iCloud. Or do it all, recording included, on one iPhone.

Math stays math

Formulas from STEM lectures render cleanly. Notes can be in a different language from the lecture, too.

Also: edit the transcript after class · keep recording into the same PDF across classes · export a PDF with your notes · English and Korean interface

Your AI

No server.
Use the AI you already have.

Gloss has no server of its own. Connect the AI subscription or API key you already use, and when notes are made, the transcript and slides go straight to that company. Gloss asks once, the first time you connect.

With an API key, one 75-minute lecture cost us about $0.40 (fast model) to $1 (best model). It depends on length and model.

Privacy

Your lectures stay on your device.

A professor’s voice and class materials deserve care. Gloss has no account and no server, and sends usage statistics only if you say yes.

Recordings
Saved only on your device and in your iCloud. Never sent anywhere.
Transcription
Done by a speech model on your device, downloaded once.
What goes to AI
Only when making notes or asking: the transcript text and slides (text and images), straight to the company you connected.
What Gloss receives
Feedback emails you choose to send, and if you turn on usage statistics, anonymous numbers like recording length and feature use. Never lecture content.

Questions

Does it cost anything?

The app is free. Only the AI that writes your notes is billed, to the account you connect: inside your Claude or ChatGPT subscription, or pay-as-you-go with an API key.

Am I allowed to record my classes?

Rules differ by school and course. Check your class’s recording policy first, and ask the professor if you need to. Keep recordings for your own study.

Which languages does it support?

English and Korean for now. Transcript and note languages are set separately, so a Korean lecture can get English notes and the other way around.

What if I never turn pages, like on Zoom?

That’s fine. Record the computer’s sound, and after class Gloss uses the transcript to work out which words go with which slide.

What about iPad or Windows?

Mac and iPhone for now. We’ll decide on other devices from what people who use Gloss tell us.
